The heart of this site remains the same: to rejoice with those brute ancestors of ours in the caves of Lascaux at the sight of something beautiful on the walls. Unless it is by way of quote, you will never see me use the word "aesthetics" here. It is a word that evokes the critic, not the art. Criticism does not have the power that Rilke's Archaic Torso of Apollo has. Criticism bridges gaps, clarifies inconsistencies, and at its best, restores Sistine Chapels to their potential splendor. Rarely does it inspire us, however, to change our lives. Consider this a cabinet full of archaic torsos.
Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting images and brief writings on some of the life-changing photographers I've had the great pleasure to work with lately: Arthur Tress, Youichi Shidomoto, Bogdan Frymorgen, and Hermann Forsterling, among others. New books by Shidomoto and Frymorgen will soon debut with Edition Galerie Vevais in a gorgeous new series by editor and founder, Alexander Scholz, called Werkdruck.
Here are some images from the upcoming wonders of Galerie Vevais. Click here to be redirected to the Werkdruck Facebook page for more details. Click on the images to be redirected to the artists' websites or flickr feeds. Much love!
